# ScreenPrompt > ScreenPrompt is a free, open-source notes window and teleprompter for Windows that stays on top of everything and out of every screen share, recording and screenshot. Notes only you can see. ScreenPrompt is a small, transparent, always-on-top window for your notes or script. Windows leaves it out of everything it captures, so you can read it during a video call, a screen share, a recording or a live stream while the people watching see only what is behind it. - Platform: Windows 10 version 2004 or later, or Windows 11. Windows only; there is no Mac or Linux version. - Price: free. Open source under the [MIT License](https://github.com/dan0dev/ScreenPrompt/blob/main/LICENSE). - Latest version: 1.2.0, released 2026-10-23, a 3.1 MB installer. - Download: [ScreenPrompt_1.2.0_x64-setup.exe](https://github.com/dan0dev/ScreenPrompt/releases/download/v1.2.0/ScreenPrompt_1.2.0_x64-setup.exe) - Hidden from: Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Google Meet, OBS, Discord, Snipping Tool, and anything else that captures the screen through Windows, in desktop apps and in the browser. - How it hides: it calls the Windows API `SetWindowDisplayAffinity` with `WDA_EXCLUDEFROMCAPTURE`, so Windows leaves the window out of screen shares, recordings and screenshots. You still see it on your monitor. - Privacy: notes and settings stay on the PC. No accounts, analytics or telemetry. The only network request is an update check to GitHub, which can be turned off. - Source code: [github.com/dan0dev/ScreenPrompt](https://github.com/dan0dev/ScreenPrompt) ## Good fit for - Video calls and meetings: keep talking points, names and numbers where you are looking - Product demos and screen-shared presentations - Live streams and recorded videos, as a teleprompter that viewers never see - Talks and keynotes read from a script, with auto-scroll ## Not a fit for - Mac or Linux: ScreenPrompt is Windows only - Exams, interviews or getting around proctoring software or any platform’s rules: it is not made for that, and features for it won’t be added - Hiding from a camera pointed at the screen: it is left out of screen capture, not invisible to people in the room ## Features - **Format as you type** (Ctrl+B): Write or paste Markdown and it formats as you type: headings, bold, lists, checkboxes, links and tables. The markers only show on the line you are on. - **Scroll by itself** (Ctrl+Shift+Space): Your notes scroll at the speed you set, like a teleprompter. The same keys pause and resume it, from any app. - **Let clicks through** (Ctrl+Shift+L): Locked, the window stops catching clicks and scrolling, so they reach the slides behind it. Esc unlocks it. - **Show or hide** (Ctrl+Shift+H): Put the notes away and bring them back without leaving the app you are presenting from. - **Undo a clear** (Ctrl+Z): Cleared your notes or pasted over them by accident? Undo brings them back for a few seconds after. - **See every shortcut** (F1): The full list lives in the app, including the position keys that snap the window to any corner. - **Make it yours** (Ctrl+Shift+S): Opacity, font, size and colours, so the notes are readable over whatever you share. ## Pages - [Home](https://screenprompt.app/): what ScreenPrompt does, how it works and answers to common questions - [Changelog](https://screenprompt.app/changelog/): every release, newest first - [Full text for AI assistants](https://screenprompt.app/llms-full.txt): this file plus every answer and the whole changelog ## Optional - [GitHub repository](https://github.com/dan0dev/ScreenPrompt): source code, README, issues - [Releases](https://github.com/dan0dev/ScreenPrompt/releases): installers for every version - [User stories](https://github.com/dan0dev/ScreenPrompt/discussions/51): how people use ScreenPrompt - [Product Hunt](https://www.producthunt.com/products/screenprompt): the launch page, with comments and reviews
