Changelog

Every ScreenPrompt release since 1.0.0, newest first. Each change links to the issue or pull request behind it, and each release to its GitHub release and code changes.

  1. 1.2.0

    , the latest

    Formatted notes and auto-scroll

The biggest update yet: notes format as you type, and they can scroll by themselves.

    • New

Formatted notes. Paste or write Markdown and it formats as you type: headings, bold, italic, strikethrough, code, quotes, lists, task checkboxes, links and tables. The markers only show on the line you are editing. Ctrl+B, Ctrl+I and the T button format text, and Ctrl+click opens a link. You can turn it off in Settings.#40#50

    • New

Auto-scroll. Ctrl+Shift+Space (or ▶ in the bottom bar) scrolls your notes by themselves, teleprompter style. Press it again to pause and resume. Ctrl+Shift+, and Ctrl+Shift+. change the speed.#50

    • New

Undo for Clear and Paste-replace. Cleared or replaced your notes by accident? Undo, or Ctrl+Z, brings them back.#50

    • New

Shortcut cheat sheet. Press F1, or open Settings > Shortcuts, to see every keyboard shortcut.#50

    • Improved

Version in the title bar. It also shows whether you are up to date or a new version is available.#50

    • Improved

One-click updates, and a download a third smaller. Updating from 1.1.3 shows the installer one last time.#48

    • Fixed

Pasting an empty clipboard no longer wipes your notes.#50

  2. 1.1.3

A way out of locked mode

    • Fixed

Locked mode has a way out. Press Esc or Ctrl+click the lock icon to unlock. Plain clicks always go through to the app below, so the overlay never blocks a button.#41#43#45

    • Improved

Scrolling works like clicks. While locked, the mouse wheel scrolls the app behind the overlay. Hold Ctrl to scroll your notes instead.#46

    • Fixed

Shortcuts no longer override your other apps. Copy, paste, clear, settings, font size and nudge only act while ScreenPrompt is focused.

    • New

Remembers where you left it. Window position, size and lock state come back when you start the app.

    • Fixed

Notes save as you type, so closing right after an edit no longer loses it.

    • Fixed

Paste and replace (Ctrl+Shift+V) works without a browser permission prompt.

    • Fixed

Position presets and nudge land correctly at any display scaling and stay clear of the taskbar.

    • New

A short “What’s new” window after each update. Like the overlay, it is hidden from screen sharing.

  3. 1.1.2

    Update prompt fix

    • Fixed

The update prompt no longer appears on every launch. The app now reads its real version, which also corrects the version shown in Settings.#35#36

    • Improved

A refreshed overlay design, following Apple’s Human Interface Guidelines.#34

  4. 1.1.1

    Maintenance

    • Fixed

Security updates. Every dependency is up to date, which resolves all 25 open Dependabot alerts.

    • Improved

Leftover files from the Python version were removed. That version is archived on the legacy-python branch.

  5. 1.1.0

    Rewritten in Rust and React

ScreenPrompt moved from Python to Tauri 2: the same features, faster and smaller.

    • Improved

A native app. A Rust backend with WebView2 replaces Python and tkinter.

    • New

Keyboard layout support. ScreenPrompt detects Hungarian (QWERTZ) or English (QWERTY) keyboards, and you can choose in Settings.

    • Fixed

Locked mode lets every click through, including over the window’s web content.

    • Fixed

Reset no longer turns the placeholder into real text.

Older versions are the original Python app.

  6. 1.0.4

    • Improved

The scroll wheel works in locked mode. Clicks still go through to the app below.

    • New

A new SP monogram icon, sharp at every display scaling.

    • Fixed

The update checker finds the installer again.

  7. 1.0.3

    Update checker

    • New

Update checker. When a new version is out, the title bar shows it, and one click downloads and installs it. Nothing updates without asking, and you can turn the check off in Settings.

  8. 1.0.2

    Fewer antivirus false alarms

    • New

New app icons, shown in the title bar, taskbar, installer and Add or Remove Programs.

    • Improved

Fewer antivirus false alarms, from building the app in a way antivirus scanners are less likely to flag.

  9. 1.0.1

    Installer and panic button

    • New

A Windows installer, with Start menu and desktop shortcuts and an uninstaller. Your settings are kept when you upgrade.

    • New

Panic button. Ctrl+Shift+F1 closes the app instantly, even while locked.

    • Improved

Hidden from the taskbar and Alt+Tab.

    • Fixed

No more black box in browser-based screen sharing (Google Meet, Discord and Teams on the web).

  10. 1.0.0

    First release

A transparent overlay for Windows that screen capture can’t see.

    • New

Hidden from screen capture, in Zoom, Teams, OBS and Snipping Tool.

    • New

Transparent and always on top, with a click-through lock.

    • New

Your choice of opacity, font, size and colors, plus position presets and keyboard shortcuts for everything.

    • New

Fully local: no data collection and no telemetry.
